POSITION OVERVIEW:

Financial Control is an independent team responsible for performing a secondary and concurring “audit partner” review on certain Strategic, Growth, and Enterprise Core client deliverables such as: financial statements, monthly or quarterly investor reports, capital call and distribution calculations along with other ad-hoc deliverables generated and reviewed by the Fund Accounting – Accounting, Reporting and Valuation (“AVR”) team. Financial Control works alongside various internal groups located in Chicago, Indianapolis, Boston, and Brea ensuring best practices while advocating industry standards. Financial Control is responsible for thoroughly understanding fund structures, strategy, assets and the economics of each deal to provide absolute quality assurance on all Alter Domus client deliverables.  background who has experience supporting ERISA structures and preparing documents for clients ERISRA fillings. 

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Perform a secondary and concurring “audit partner” review of key areas of risk on client deliverables including quarterly financial statements, investor statements, call and distribution calculations, waterfall calculations, and certain ad-hoc or non-standard deliverables such as IRR calculations
  • Work with AVR, Implementation, Technology, and Management to streamline reviews, improving quality on client deliverables.  Participate in process remediations as needed
  • Be a Subject Matter Expert resource for technical accounting treatment/policies, procedures and controls to internal teams and to external clients
  • Adapt risk-based internal controls and processes based on review findings and work with AVR and management team to set, document and rollout best practice standards across fund services business units
  • Work with management and technology teams to suggest and identify best practice automation solutions to increase quality and operational efficiency
  • Assess, measure, and implement ways to mitigate financial risk of misstatement including designing preventative and detective internal controls
  • Perform technical accounting research and conclude correct accounting treatment in a clear and concise manner, and propose recommendations based on that research
  • Actively work with AVR and implementation to help establish best practices during deal onboarding as well as assist AVR with accounting policy technical inquiries when necessary
  • Review the first quarterly financial reporting for assigned implementation deals to confirm the methodology and reporting is consistent with fund governing documents, industry best practices, and client accounting policies
  • Assist AVR and systems administrators to ensure accounting and reporting platforms are setup in accordance with fund governing documents
  • Participate in accounting discussions with client during onboarding process and review accounting treatment memo prepared by fund accounting team.
  • Identify and evaluate global risk themes to assess training needs and suggest areas where the team is not adequately trained and give appropriate feedback on competency gaps
  • Be a subject matter resource internally, aid in delivery of training materials and proactively address training deficiencies as they arise
  • Identify and stay current with market trends, standards and regulatory updates by attending industry events and seminars
  • Champion and lead business initiatives including the SOC internal control compliance, waterfall, and capital activity working groups
  • Champion the Alter Domus brand internally and externally while ensuring the core values are instilled across the team
  • Build internal and external relationships with responsive, confident communications and strong attention to detail.
  • Able to be client facing during onboarding and be available throughout the life of the deal. This includes being present for face-to-face client visits
